By His Wounds You Have Been Healed

Summary

1 Peter is written to “elect exiles of the dispersion,” scattered through Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, chosen by God’s foreknowledge, set apart by the Spirit, and sprinkled with Christ’s blood for obedience. At the center of the message stands Christ’s substitutionary suffering: he himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness, for “by his wounds you have been healed,” echoing the truth that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Because of this healing, those in Christ are made a chosen race, a royal priesthood, called out of darkness into his marvelous light. The sermon calls believers to answer such costly grace not with careless living but with holy obedience and steadfast faith, even while walking through suffering, following the pattern Christ himself set.
