Listen to Jesus

Summary

Jesus said His sheep hear His voice, know Him, and follow Him, and that He gives them eternal life which no one can snatch away; those who do not belong to His flock are those who will not listen to Him.

The sermon presses this further with the Father’s word at the Transfiguration to simply ‘listen to Him,’ and with Jesus’ warning that how we hear determines what more will be given. It closes with Revelation’s blessing on those who hear and keep His words, since Christ, who is coming again, calls His people to stay alert and obedient to His voice.

Essential truths

  1. Jesus' true sheep recognize His voice, follow Him, and are given eternal life that no one can snatch away.
  2. Those who do not belong to Christ's flock are marked by their refusal to listen to Him.
  3. How carefully we hear and heed God's word determines how much more will be entrusted to us.
  4. Christ's call to listen carries urgency, since He is coming again as He promised.

Encouragement and challenge

Examine whether you truly listen to and obey Christ's voice above every other voice, and stay watchful for His return.
