The Lord Is Come

Summary

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and was God — and this same eternal Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. This two-part message walks through the wonder of the incarnation: God Himself taking on human flesh so that we might behold His glory.

Though He was rich, for our sake He became poor, so that through His poverty we might become rich (2 Cor 8:9). The coming of the Lord is announced with the heavenly host’s declaration of good news of great joy, and it calls for a response — not mere seasonal sentiment, but wonder, worship, and gratitude that the eternal Word chose to become one of us to save us.

Essential truths

  1. The Word who was with God and was God became flesh and dwelt among us in the person of Jesus Christ.
  2. Christ's coming was announced with the angels' declaration of good news of great joy for all people.
  3. Though He was rich, for our sake He became poor, so that through His poverty we might become rich (2 Cor 8:9).
  4. The incarnation is an act of pure grace — God the Son taking on our humanity to accomplish our salvation.

Encouragement and challenge

Receive the grace shown in Christ's coming not merely as a Christmas sentiment but as the ground of your salvation, and respond with grateful worship.
