The Glory of God

← All sermons

Summary

This message traces the theme of God’s glory from humanity’s glory, which fades, to the Lord’s own glory, which is unfading and supreme. It moves into John’s prologue – “In him was life, and the life was the light of men” – to show that the Lord’s glory is most fully revealed in Christ, the eternal Word made flesh.

Having established that true glory belongs to God alone and is seen in Christ, the sermon turns to application: believers are called “to reflect the glory of God” in how they live, rather than seeking glory for themselves. The message ends by pointing back to Christ as the one in whom God’s glory shines most clearly for His people to reflect.

Essential truths

  1. Human glory is temporary and fades, but the Lord's glory endures forever.
  2. Christ, the eternal Word, is the fullest revelation of God's glory – "in him was life, and the life was the light of men."
  3. Believers are called not to seek their own glory but to reflect the glory of God.
  4. Beholding Christ is how God's people come to reflect His glory rather than their own.

Encouragement and challenge

Stop chasing glory for yourself, and instead let your life reflect the glory of Christ, in whom true and lasting glory is found.
