The Ultimate Prophet

← All sermons

Summary

This lesson looked at Christ, the Anointed One, through the three anointed offices of the Old Testament: prophet, priest and king. Those offices were shadows of things to come, and the substance belongs to Christ. At Sinai the people were terrified by God’s voice and asked for a mediator. Moses promised that God would raise up a prophet like him, put His words in that prophet’s mouth, and require an answer from anyone who would not listen.

God, who spoke long ago through the prophets, has spoken in these last days in His Son. As prophet, Christ revealed the true intent of God’s law, the mystery of the kingdom and the triune God. He exposed hypocrisy, foretold Jerusalem’s fall and His own death and resurrection, and in Revelation He shows the end of all things. The church is built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ as the cornerstone.
