Changing Culture vs Family

Summary

Contemporary culture’s redefinition of good and evil did not happen overnight; it flows from a moral revolution that made relativism, autonomy, and personal choice the new gods, turning even gender and sexuality into “alternative lifestyles” and calling rebellion a human right. Against that drift, the message returns to Genesis to recover what a family actually is: man, created in God’s image, is given the calling to cultivate and keep the garden and to exercise dominion under God, a mandate primarily for building God’s kingdom on earth.

Woman is not an afterthought but God’s own gift, “bone of my bone,” made because it was not good for man to be alone; together they become one flesh in a divinely ordered union under Christ. Fathers and mothers are given God-defined, gender-specific roles of leading and teaching their households, commanding their children in the way of the Lord as Abraham was called to do, so that the family, not the shifting culture, remains the primary institution God has established to carry out his dominion mandate.

Essential truths

  1. Culture's redefinition of good and evil is a moral revolution, not moral progress.
  2. Man was created in God's image and given the calling to work and to exercise dominion under God, primarily to build his kingdom.
  3. Woman is God's necessary gift to man, "bone of his bone," made because it is not good for man to be alone.
  4. God defines the family with gender-specific, complementary roles for husband and wife, father and mother, that culture has no authority to redefine.

Encouragement and challenge

Don't let a changing culture write your definitions of family, manhood, and womanhood; recover them from Genesis and order your household under Christ, the true head, whatever the surrounding culture calls normal.
