‘Is anything too difficult for the Lord?’ God asked Abraham, and He asked Moses, ‘Is the Lord’s power limited?’ Through Jeremiah He said, ‘I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?’ Yet the same prophet asks whether the Ethiopian can change his skin or the leopard his spots, and says that those accustomed to evil cannot do good. What is impossible for man, God makes possible: ‘Behold, I will do something new,’ a roadway in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
That new thing is newness of life. Buried with Christ through baptism, believers are raised to walk in newness of life. Christ has set us free, and those who walk by the Spirit will not carry out the desire of the flesh. The deeds of the flesh are evident, and those who practice them will not inherit the kingdom of God, but the Spirit bears His fruit of love, joy and peace in those who have crucified the flesh.
