Is God’s Law for Us Today?

Summary

The seminar meets on the day the church’s Havilah Garden Resort & Events Place was formally dedicated, opening with worship and a family testimony before turning, in the afternoon, to the day’s real question: does God’s law still bind believers? The lecture confronts the popular assumption, common even inside the church, that the Ten Commandments are no longer relevant because “we are saved by grace, not by works,” naming this the antinomian error.

Grounding the answer first in Ephesians 2, where salvation is shown to be an act of grace by the sovereign, triune God from beginning to end, the lecture argues that grace does not abolish the law but establishes it: there is “One God, One Law-Word, One Everlasting Covenant of Grace,” and every area of life – physical, moral, and civil – remains under God’s law, given through Moses and fulfilled, not erased, at the cross of Christ.

Essential truths

  1. Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone, the sovereign work of the triune God, not a result of human works (Eph. 2:1-10).
  2. Grace does not cancel God's law; it establishes the one everlasting covenant under the one law-giving God.
  3. The claim that Christians are "no longer under law" because they are saved by grace is a modern antinomian error, not the historic faith.
  4. Every area of life – not only worship, but family, society, and civil life – remains under God's moral law.

Encouragement and challenge

Do not use grace as an excuse to set aside God's law; let grace itself teach you to walk in obedience to the Lawgiver who saved you.
