Paul writes that Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes, because righteousness does not come by our own effort but by confessing with our mouth and believing in our heart that Jesus is Lord. This sermon works out what that Lordship actually touches: our relationships, our salvation and restoration, the evil and darkness that presses on us, and even our life and death.
The heart of the message rests on the word “believe.” The Greek word behind it, pisteuo, is related to a root meaning to be persuaded — not simply agreeing with a fact about Jesus, but entrusting the whole of who we are to His care. Just as God brought Abraham outside and pointed him to the stars, promising him offspring, so the call today is to trust the Lord who keeps His word, and to confess with the mouth what is believed in the heart.
