A crowd that had just been fed miraculously came looking for Jesus again, and He confronted their motive directly: they were seeking Him for bread that perishes, not for the true bread that gives eternal life. Chasing after things that cannot ultimately satisfy is its own kind of idolatry, and Jesus offers Himself instead as the only bread that truly fills.
He promises that everyone the Father gives Him will come to Him, and that He will lose none of them, raising them up on the last day. Eternal life is not found in temporary provision or in any substitute we set up in God’s place, but only in Christ, the bread of life who came down from heaven so that whoever believes in Him would never go hungry again.
