The seminar opens with the protoevangelium – “the first gospel” – God’s word to the serpent in Genesis 3:15 promising enmity between the serpent’s seed and the woman’s seed, and a Deliverer who would be wounded in the heel yet crush the serpent’s head. From Cain’s murder of Abel, through Pharaoh’s slaughter of Israel’s infants, Athaliah’s massacre of the royal line, and Haman’s plot against the Jews, Scripture traces one long war on the promised seed, until Christ – the true Seed of the woman – is born, crucified, and raised, stripping “him who had the power of death, that is, the devil” of his power (Heb. 2:14).
The seminar then follows this same war of the seeds into Revelation 12, where the defeated dragon turns his rage against the woman’s remaining offspring – “those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus Christ” – and closes with Satan’s certain end in the lake of fire. It concludes with the Day of Atonement (Lev. 16), whose blood-sprinkled mercy seat, scapegoat, and high priest’s mediation typify the atonement Christ accomplished once for all, so that those who trust Him are “justified by faith” and have “peace with God” (Rom. 5:1), their sins forgiven and not counted against them (Rom. 4:7-8).
