Taking its cue from Moses as God’s spokesman who delivered the law at Sinai, this message asks how Christians ought to relate to God’s law now that Christ has come. It contrasts a zeal for God “not according to knowledge,” seeking to establish one’s own righteousness rather than submitting to God’s righteousness, with Jesus’ own statement that he did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them.
Using an ordinary illustration of obeying traffic laws on the road, the sermon presses that just as civil law orders a community, God’s law reveals his righteous character and our need for the righteousness that comes only through Christ, who is “the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.”
