Leviticus 1 describes the burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire that becomes a sweet aroma to the Lord. Unlike offerings where only a portion was given, the burnt offering was wholly consumed, picturing complete devotion rather than partial surrender.
The sermon connects this ancient offering to the New Testament call to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, and to Jesus’ own claim to be the way, the truth, and the life, the one through whom all true worship must come. The burnt offering, then, points beyond itself to whole-life devotion made possible only through Christ.
