The Lamb’s Book of Life

Summary

John’s vision in Revelation 20 shows a great white throne judgment: the dead, great and small, standing before God as books are opened, including the Book of Life. Those whose names are not found written in it are cast into the lake of fire, the second death. Alongside this scene stand pictures of the redeemed—the Lamb, the twenty-four elders, and the overcomers who remain faithful even in the face of death.

The message turns from judgment to assurance: Christ promises the overcomer that He will never erase his name from the Book of Life, and John writes so that believers who trust in the Son of God may know they have eternal life. The call is to examine whether one’s name is truly secured in Christ.

Essential truths

  1. Every person will stand before God's throne, and the books, including the Book of Life, will decide their eternal destiny.
  2. Anyone whose name is not found written in the Book of Life is judged and cast into the lake of fire.
  3. Christ promises the overcomer that He will never erase his name from the Book of Life.
  4. Those who believe in the Son of God can know with certainty that they have eternal life.

Encouragement and challenge

Make certain your name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life by trusting in Christ, and hold fast that confession to the end.
