The War Between Two Seeds

← All sermons

Summary

Genesis 3:15 records the first promise of the gospel: God tells the serpent that the seed of the woman will crush his head, even as the serpent bruises his heel. This sermon follows that promise as the thread running through the entire Bible, arriving at Revelation 12, where the ancient war breaks into full view — a dragon opposing a woman and her offspring, cast down at last by the blood of the Lamb.

Using a side-by-side comparison of Genesis and Revelation (subtitled “The Beginning and the Ultimate End”), the message shows how the Bible’s beginning and end mirror one another: the garden lost becomes the city gained, and the curse pronounced becomes the curse removed. The whole of history, in other words, is this one war between two seeds, already decided in Christ’s victory.

Essential truths

  1. Genesis 3:15, the protoevangelium, announces war between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent from the very beginning of Scripture.
  2. Revelation 12 depicts that same ancient war reaching its climax: the dragon opposing the woman and her offspring, defeated by the Lamb.
  3. Genesis and Revelation are bookends of the Bible's one story — the paradise lost in Eden is the paradise regained in the New Jerusalem.
  4. History is not random; it is the outworking of this one war between two seeds, ending with Christ's decisive victory over the serpent.

Encouragement and challenge

Recognize which "seed" you belong to, and find your place, through faith in Christ, on the winning side of history's war.
